Sump & Sewage System

In 2025, Albany Water Systems engineered and supplied a custom sump and sewage pump system for the Via Rail Toronto Maintenance Centre (TMC) facility in Toronto, Ontario. The system was designed to handle both stormwater and sanitary wastewater generated within the facility’s service areas, providing reliable drainage and flood protection for the below-grade zones of this critical transportation infrastructure.

System Overview

  • Duplex submersible sewage pump system with automatic alternation and overload protection
  • Simplex sump pump package for foundation and stormwater drainage
  • Heavy-duty basins with guide rail assemblies, quick-disconnect fittings, and sealed covers for safe and efficient maintenance
  • UL/ULC-listed control panels with Hand-Off-Auto selector switches, pilot lights, and alarm indicators
  • Dry alarm contacts for integration with the facility’s Building Automation System (BAS)
  • Check and isolation valves mounted on common discharge headers for easy service access
  • Aluminum access hatches supplied for all pits, ensuring secure entry and clean installation finish
  • Pre-assembled, factory-tested packages for simplified installation and commissioning

Performance & Functionality

The system ensures automatic drainage operation under varying flow conditions. Pumps alternate for even wear, with built-in redundancy to maintain performance during peak demand or maintenance cycles. High-level alarms provide early warning of abnormal water levels, ensuring full protection against flooding and system downtime.

Project Outcome

Once fully operational, the Via Rail TMC sump and sewage system will deliver safe, dependable, and low-maintenance wastewater handling for the facility’s underground and service areas. This project exemplifies Albany Water Systems’ commitment to reliable, code-compliant, and engineered pumping solutions, supporting essential infrastructure across Canada with proven performance and long service life.
