Sump & Sewage System
In 2025, Albany Water Systems engineered, supplied, and commissioned a custom sump and sewage pump system for the General Motors Oshawa Assembly Plant – Blast Booth Building B. The system was designed to provide reliable drainage and wastewater handling for the blast booth and adjacent service areas, ensuring safe and continuous operation in this high-demand industrial environment.
System Overview
- Duplex submersible sewage pump system designed for heavy-duty industrial applications
- Simplex sump pump package for foundation and stormwater drainage
- Industrial-grade basins equipped with guide rail assemblies and quick-disconnect fittings for simplified maintenance
- UL/ULC-listed control panel with Hand-Off-Auto (HOA) selectors, overload protection, and visual/audible alarms
- Dry alarm contacts for Building Automation System (BAS) or central monitoring integration
- Check and isolation valves pre-mounted on common discharge headers for ease of service
- Aluminum access hatches supplied for each sump and sewage pit, ensuring safe and secure access points
- Pre-assembled, wired, and wet-tested systems to reduce installation time and ensure reliability at startup
Performance & Features
The system automatically manages both stormwater and process wastewater generated during vehicle surface preparation and cleaning operations. Automatic alternation between pumps ensures even runtime distribution, while float-based level control and alarm functions maintain flood-free operation even under peak load conditions.
Project Outcome
Upon commissioning, the GM Oshawa Blast Booth Building B sump and sewage system will deliver continuous, low-maintenance drainage performance, protecting production areas and maintaining environmental safety standards. This project demonstrates Albany Water Systems’ expertise in industrial-grade pumping and drainage solutions, engineered to meet the demanding reliability, performance, and safety standards of Canada’s automotive manufacturing sector.
